It’s also created synthetically and used as a medicine to treat insomnia and help with sleep. Melatonin’s main function in the body is to regulate our night and day cycles. When the lights go out at night, the darkness causes the body to produce more melatonin, which signals to the body that it’s time to sleep. How long does CBD take to kick in? How long does the effect of CBD last? While the effects of CBD oils can be felt more quickly than ingestibles, the effects of ingestibles tend to last longer. The effects of CBD oils tend to last 2-6 hours, where the effects of CBD ingestibles tend to last 4-8 hours.
What if CBD doesn’t work for me? The most common reasons for not feeling the effects of CBD are 1) using low-quality products and 2) taking the wrong dosage. There are thousands of amazing CBD products on the market, and the “right one” for you is highly personal. You’ll need to decide on a spectrum, a dosage, and a product category.
Which CBD spectrum is right for me? If you’re OK with a little THC, full spectrum CBD is highly recommended. Full spectrum CBD contains a tiny amount of THC, which produces an entourage effect and increases the effectiveness of CBD. And, don’t worry, it’s legal in the U.S. and not enough THC to make you feel high.
If you’re not OK with THC, we recommend broad spectrum CBD, which contains CBD and other cannabinoids, but no THC. The other cannabinoids, like CBG and CBN, offer additional benefits.
CBD isolate products contain CBD, but no other cannabinoids. CBD isolate is great for people who need an extremely high dosage of CBD, and for products like CBD bath bombs that are manufactured with a CBD isolate powder (and not a CBD oil extract).
How many milligrams of CBD do I need? We recommend starting with a low dosage of CBD, and you’ll need at least 300mg of CBD for a month’s supply. If you need a higher dosage, you’ll find a lot of great products between 750 – 1,500mg of CBD.
CBD oils: CBD oils are taken under the tongue. They kick in quickly, but don’t last as long as CBD ingestibles. While CBD oils are the most popular CBD product, many people complain about the complexity of figuring out the right dose. For instance, if you have a 1500mg CBD bottle, and a 1ml dropper, and you want to calculate a 10mg dose, you’ll need to do some math.
CBD ingestibles: CBD ingestibles are swallowed. They don’t kick in as quickly as CBD oils, but they tend to last longer. We like CBD ingestibles because they’re often pre-dosed, and finding the right daily dosage can be easier than oils.
CBD topicals: CBD topicals are rubbed into the skin. Unlike CBD oils and ingestibles, CBD topicals do not enter your blood stream, so the effects tend to be more mellow. CBD topicals are great for people who are starting out with CBD and want to try a very mellow product.
CBD transdermals: Like topicals, CBD transdermals are absorbed through the skin, but the CBD penetrates deeper and enters the bloodstream. As a result, CBD transdermals tend to produce a stronger effect than CBD topicals, and they typically remain on your body for 1-3 days.

Everyone reacts differently to CBD. Start with a low dose of 10mg CBD per day, then adjust as necessary. Repeat daily.
If you increase your daily dosage, you’ll fall into the range of medium CBD dosage, which is 16 – 44 milligrams of CBD. Many daily CBD users take about 25 milligrams per day, or 750 milligrams of CBD per month.
For more extreme symptoms, a high dosage of +45 milligrams of CBD can be successful.
